ABOUT HUDSON FOREST

Hudson Forest is a distinctive gated community in Houston's Memorial area, situated along Briar Forest Drive. Its rich history and thoughtfully preserved natural environment contribute to its unique character.

Historical Background

The land now known as Hudson Forest was originally Camp Hudson, a Boy Scout camp established in May 1915 when E.A. Hudson, a local furniture store owner, donated approximately 50 acres to the Boy Scouts for camping purposes. By the 1960s, the camp hosted various scouting activities, including training sessions and day camps. However, as Houston expanded westward, the area became less secluded, prompting the Scouts to sell the property in the 1970s. They stipulated that the land be used exclusively for residential purposes and that its natural beauty be preserved. The Christiana Company, led by Martin Fenton, acquired the land and collaborated with foresters and architects to ensure that mature trees were preserved, often designing roads and homes around them.

Community Development

Development of Hudson Forest began in the mid-1970s with six model homes featuring open floor plans and a California-inspired design. The community comprises 213 residences, including single-family homes and townhomes, spread across six subdivisions: Hudson Forest Sections 1 and 2, Hudson on the Bayou Sections 1 and 2, Hudson Green, and Hudson Circle. These homes, primarily built between the 1970s and 1980s, showcase a mix of traditional, contemporary, and Mediterranean architectural styles. Most properties are two-story structures with 3 to 4 bedrooms, ranging from 2,300 to over 4,000 square feet.

Amenities and Lifestyle

Hudson Forest offers residents a tranquil, forested environment with amenities such as a 24-hour manned security gate, swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts (currently not available due to hurricane damage), and dog park. The community's location provides easy access to major thoroughfares like Interstate 10 and Beltway 8, as well as proximity to the Galleria, Memorial City, and the Energy Corridor. Homes in Hudson Forest are zoned to the highly regarded Spring Branch Independent School District, including Memorial Drive Elementary, Spring Branch Middle, and Memorial High School.

Hudson Forest's blend of historical significance, natural preservation, and modern conveniences makes it a unique and desirable neighborhood in Houston.
